Sometimes the best philosophy happens with sand between your toes.
Christ College students proved this weekend that deep thinking and good waves make perfect companions during the inaugural "Surf n' Socrates" event. What started as an afternoon at the beach transformed into an evening of spirited intellectual discourse at the president's house, proving that wisdom is truly timeless, whether you're contemplating it in board shorts and flip-flops or leather chairs next to old books.
The event drew an enthusiastic group of students who spent the afternoon soaking up both the surf and each other's company before diving into one of philosophy's greatest texts. After trading coastal tides for bookshelves, the group gathered around the president's living room to unpack Plato's "Apology of Socrates" alongside faculty members.
"It's these kinds of events that show how we can both explore the beauty and wonder of God's world while also contemplating the deepest questions of life," said Dean of Students, Tyler Bauer.
The success of this first Surf n' Socrates event has students already waiting for the next philosophical beach adventure.
